The twenty-first century has been dubbed “the century of storytelling.” The global appetite for stories is shifting to Africa, creating a huge opportunity for the African animation industry. Africa has a vast store of stories that are largely unexplored.
Magic Carpet Studios, an award-winning innovation storytelling company focused on putting Africa stories on the map of global entertainment, is one of the studios primed for this boom. The Studio officially began operations in 2016 as a 2D animation studio but has since expanded into 3D animation and gaming, quickly establishing itself as an industrial animation hub for outsourcing. Magic Carpet has received local and international recognition for its numerous projects from a variety of established award institutions and festivals. “The Passport of Mallam Ilia,” Africa’s first 2D/3D feature film, is currently in production at the studio.
The studio, dubbed the “Disney of Africa” by industry experts and enthusiasts, is celebrating its fifth year anniversary this month, as well as its emergence on the continent as one of the continent’s flagship studios in the African animation industry.
